STATEMENT OF INTENT

My target audience is for younger children, mainly between 10-13 years of age. My genre will be zoo life, however the sub-genre is going to be a specific type of monkey. I will plan to appeal to my target audience by using bright colours and text that will attract their attention, such as a big and bubbly font in a bright yellow colour. This colour palette will attract my target audience as it will look like a fun read. When researching similar products for inspiration, I learnt a number of media codes and conventions such as colour palette – this in particular came in very handy when choosing the colour palette for my magazine due to this being one of the main ways of appealing to my target audience. Another convention that I learnt along the way was layout. For example, on my double page spread, I will be needing 3 main images. On my front cover, the layout will be equally as important because the masthead has to be in the right place and level with the rest of my front cover, along with the images that I will put onto my front cover and the text. In my magazine, I will mainly use 1 stereotype, and that is that younger children are attracted to bright colours and more images than text. This stereotype will be a crucial part in the making of my magazine because if I use, for example, black and white throughout my magazine, this would most likely mean that it wouldn't appeal to my target audience. In my magazine, I will use intertextuality in a sense of familiarity because my magazine will be based on a species of monkey in the zoo, which most children around 10-13 would enjoy.
